In 1991, gentleman racer Franco de Paoli bought a new Range Rover and had it prepped for the Paris-Moscow-Bejing Rally taking place that same year. The event was canceled, leading to Paoli running Range Rover in the Pharaohs' Rally in Egypt that same year — and winning the T2 class.
The Pharaohs' Rally took place over 3,100 miles of Egyptian desert, pushing man and machine to their limits. The Range Rover ran the 1993 Paris-Dakar Rally, but didn't finish due to a mechanical failure.
In 1995, the SUV would serve as a press vehicle for that year's Paris-Dakar Rally, following the race and providing coverage of the event.
Paoli returned the Range Rover to a mostly stock configuration and drove it regularly. It's since been restored to its rally raid glory and is going to auction on April 2, 2023.
Auction estimates place this RRC at $74,000 - $100,000 usd.
