About the Product

Castrol Brake Fluid DOT 4

Description:

Castrol Brake Fluid DOT4 is a high boiling point synthetic brake fluid that meets and exceeds the requirements of SAE J1703, SAE J1704, FMVSS 116 DOT 4, ISO 4925 and JIS K 2233 specifications. This brake fluid is designed for use in all braking systems subject to extreme conditions.

Conditions of use:

Castrol Brake Fluid DOT4 must not be used in brake systems where mineral oil based products are recommended. This applies for example to certain Citroën systems where Castrol LHM Plus is suitable and to Rolls Royce vehicles where Castrol CHSMO Plus is approved.

Additional information:

It is essential to avoid any contamination with mineral oil or other petroleum products, as even small concentrations can be harmful to plastic brake components. After opening the packaging, the shelf life is limited due to the hygroscopic properties of brake fluids.

Approvals

  • JIS K 2233 Class 4
  • SAE J1703
  • SAE J1704
  • ISO 4925 Class 4
  • FMVSS 116 DOT 4

Properties

  • Appearance: Clear & transparent liquid
  • Density at 20°C: 1.085 g/ml (IP 160)
  • Dry boiling point, ERBP (Equilibrium Reflux Boiling Point): 250°C min. (ASTM D1120)
  • Kinematic viscosity at -40°C: 1400 mm²/s max. (ASTM D7042)
  • Wet boiling point, WRBP (Wet Reflux Boiling Point): 165°C (SAE J1703)
  • pH: 8.0 (SAE J1703)
  • Kinematic viscosity at 100°C: 2.3 mm²/s (ASTM D445)

Applications

  • Castrol Brake Fluid DOT4 is developed on the basis of mixed polyalkylene glycol ethers and borate esters, with carefully selected additives and corrosion inhibitors. This provides ultimate protection against corrosion and "vapor lock".

  • The formulation ensures that the "vapour lock" point is higher than conventional glycol ether based fluids.

  • Castrol Brake Fluid DOT4 is fully miscible with other brake fluids meeting FMVSS 116 DOT 3 and DOT 4 standards. However, to maintain high performance characteristics, it is not recommended to mix this product with other brake fluids.

  • Please note that all conventional brake fluids deteriorate over time. It is recommended to replace Castrol Brake Fluid DOT4 according to the manufacturer's instructions. If no specific instructions are available, it is recommended to replace the brake fluid every 2 years.

  • As with all glycol ethers brake fluids, this product must not come into contact with lacquers and other paintwork, as this may have harmful effects. If this does occur, the surface should be rinsed immediately with water, without rubbing.
